Your future contribution

We’re growing our Tech Services team to better support our product and ensure a seamless experience for users. This team’s mission is to resolve product-related issues quickly, improve processes, and enhance the maintainability of our codebase. As a Junior Back-End Engineer, you will tackle challenges such as:

Rapid Issue Resolution: Collaborating with product teams to address and resolve user-impacting issues promptly while maintaining high standards of efficiency.
Codebase Sustainability: Refactoring and improving existing code to adhere to clean code principles (SOLID, KISS, DRY, YAGNI), ensuring long-term maintainability.
Process Optimization: Establishing data-driven escalation thresholds for tickets to streamline workflows and enable faster decision-making.
Feature Enhancement Support: Assisting with small feature updates and adjustments to support the evolving needs of our users and product teams.

You will collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including the Product Manager, Software Support Manager, and a Backend Developer, as part of a diverse, Berlin-based team. Your work will focus on balancing fast problem-solving with an eye on the long-term technical health of our systems.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives on solving problems, loves refactoring, and values collaboration.

How you’ll add value

Resolve product-related issues in collaboration with the product team, focusing on refactoring and maintaining legacy codebases.
Implement smaller features and adjustments to support ongoing system development.
Optimize ticket escalation processes to streamline workflows for the Tech Services team.
Enhance code quality by driving incremental improvements for long-term maintainability.
Address the growing volume of product-related tasks, ensuring responsiveness without overloading the existing team.
Provide additional capacity to tackle bugs and maintenance tasks, supporting the product teams effectively.

You’ll be successful in this role if you

Possess 2+ years of professional experience in software development.
Are comfortable with PHP and eager to grow expertise in frameworks like Laminas and Symfony.
Are familiar with relational databases and core programming principles.
Have experience with HTML
Understand Agile methodologies and have experience with tools like Jira, Trello, or Asana.
Are familiar with templating engines such as Twig, Smarty, or Blade (a plus).
Adhere to clean code practices, including SOLID principles, KISS, DRY, and YAGNI.
Are willing to learn and adapt to new technologies.
Display strong communication and collaboration skills.
Are fluent in English, both written and spoken.
